Services

Geotechnical engineering is concerned with the engineering properties of earth materials. Our staff of highly educated, professional engineers are ready to assist the client in determining a site’s engineering properties and how those properties will interact with the proposed construction.

A geotechnical investigation by one of our experienced engineers will include obtaining information on the physical characteristics of the soil and rock to provide recommendations for earthwork and designs of foundations for the project. Our two fully equipped drill rigs and skilled crews are available to assist with the site investigation to obtain sampling of the subsurface conditions if necessary. GeoTechnologies’ engineering services also include dam evaluations, retaining wall design, and Phase I environmental evaluations, to name a few. Our staff is trained in the use of the Marchetti Flat Plate Dilatometer (DMT) which is used for estimating settlement on heavier structures. We also utilize other sophisticated equipment to provide geophysical refraction testing, thermal conductivity testing, field resistivity, and GPS locating of soil borings.

GeoTechnologies takes pride in providing innovative, economical solutions to engineering problems. Our engineers have taken on the challenges of projects such as NCEMC Peak Power Plant in Anson County, North Carolina to the LNG Storage Tanks in the Fujian Province of China. Big or small, all of our projects receive the same quality attention.

CONSTRUCTION
MATERIALS TESTING

GeoTechnologies, Inc. provides quality assurance/control and inspection of construction materials during the construction phase of projects. Our trained field technicians have extensive experience in the testing and inspection of soil, concrete, masonry, aggregates, asphalt, spray-on fireproofing, and structural steel both during and after construction. Our Technicians are equipped to perform necessary field tests and are highly capable of resolving problems which may arise during the actual construction sequence. Our technicians communicate with our registered engineers and can provide recommendations as needed, such as achieving required compaction percentages, repair of unsuitable areas during construction, as well as providing information regarding potential problems which may arise before and after construction is complete.

GeoTechnologies often provides “Special Inspections” on projects in accordance with local and state building codes. Special Inspections include soils, deep and shallow foundations, concrete, masonry, and structural steel on a continuous basis or as specified. GeoTechnologies provides all field technicians training to complete certifications in ACI (American Concrete Institute) for concrete field testing. Many of our technicians have certifications with NICET (National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technicians), ICC (International Code Council), CWI (Certified Welding Inspector), and NCDOT (North Carolina Department of Transportation).

They are encouraged and have worked hard to obtain high levels of certification in the areas of soil, concrete, asphalt, and masonry testing and inspections. GeoTechnologies offers additional services such as concrete and asphalt coring, pavement investigations and proofrolls, as well as foundation inspections.

Our services also include using specialty equipment such as:

  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for locating objects in concrete and masonry, such as steel reinforcing and post tension cables to a max depth of 16 inches
  • Windsor Probe testing to verify concrete strength
  • Floor Flatness Testing (Dipstick) of concrete slabs
  • Nuclear Density Gauge for verifying compaction of soils

Drilling
Services

GeoTechnologies, Inc. provides in-house drilling services to support our engineering staff during geotechnical investigations.

We utilize two all terrain, vehicle mounted drill rigs which are run by our technically trained crews. Our lead operators have over 50 years combined experience in subsurface exploration and can provide timely mobilization of a rig and crew to the project site.

Laboratory
testing Services

GeoTechnologies, Inc., maintains and operates a full service in-house laboratory for testing of soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt, and aggregates. By having our own in-house laboratory, we are able to promptly begin testing of samples brought from the field.  In addition, this also enables us to maintain control over the testing process, making sure all tests are performed in accordance with the appropriate ASTM or AASHTO standards.

GeoTechnologies is committed to a high level of quality control. Our laboratory staff is trained in the appropriate testing procedures and our equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. The laboratory is routinely inspected/assessed by CCRL and AASHTO re:source, and our laboratory has been granted accreditation by AAP.  A full list of our accreditation standards can be found here.  Our clients can be assured that their test results will be reliable, accurate, and performed in a timely manner. Our lab tests include but are not limited to the following:
